Several things need to be taken into account when deciding what size self storage unit you will need. 

• If you will not need to access your belongings after they have been put into storage you should plan to pack the storage unit slowly and carefully.  Pack it to the ceiling, make sure all boxes have lids on them so they can be stacked, roll up items like small floor rugs and place on bookcase shelves etc.  You will be amazed how much you can fit into a small space when you pack precisely, and if you are planning to store long term this can create huge savings.
• If you think you will require access to your goods while they are in storage you may decide on a layout that will assist you to locate the things you need, e.g. allow space for a “walkway” through the center of the unit, place goods which will likely be needed closest to the door, mark boxes which contain items you will need very clearly.
